Here's a detailed step-by-step guide:

1. Lip Blush Aftercare: First 24-48 Hours

  • Clean the Area Gently: Right after the procedure, the area may feel tender or swollen. Gently clean it with a damp cotton pad dampened in sterile water or a saline solution. This should be done every few hours to prevent infection and remove lymphatic fluid. Only dap, do not wipe.

  • Apply a Healing Balm: Your technician will usually provide or recommend a healing ointment (a specialised tattoo balm). Apply it lightly using a clean cotton swab, not your fingers, to avoid transferring bacteria.

2. Days 1-7:

  • Clean 2 x a Day: Gently clean it with a damp cotton pad dampened in sterile water or a saline solution. This should be done every few hours to prevent infection and remove lymphatic fluid. Only dap, do not wipe.

  • Avoid Picking and Scratching: Lip Blush aftercare process involves the formation of scabs or flakes. Do not pick at these as it can lead to scarring, uneven pigmentation, or infection. Let the scabs fall off naturally.

  • Moisturise Regularly: Keep the area lightly moisturised using the aftercare ointment provided by your technician. Ensure that it stays hydrated, but do not oversaturate the area, as too much moisture can impede healing.

  • Keep it Dry: Avoid getting the treated area wet during activities like washing your face or showering. If it does get wet, gently pat it dry with a clean tissue or towel. Avoid soaking the area in water (swimming pools, baths, saunas, etc.).

3. Sun and Heat Protection:

  • Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: Sunlight can cause the pigment to fade or change colour. Protect your tattoo by staying out of direct sunlight, and once healed and peeling has finished, apply a high-SPF sunscreen to the area.

  • Avoid Heat and Sweating: During the first week, avoid heavy sweating, hot showers, steam rooms, and saunas. Excessive moisture and heat can affect pigment retention and cause irritation.

4. Avoid Makeup and Skincare Products:

  • No Makeup on the Area: For 7-10 days, avoid applying any makeup, foundation, or other cosmetic products to the tattooed area. These products can irritate the skin and interfere with healing.

  • Avoid Chemical Exfoliants: Avoid any products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), beta hydroxy acids (BHA), retinol, or any exfoliating products, as they can cause premature fading or irritation.

5. Lifestyle Adjustments:

  • No spicy or hot foods or liquids: These types of foods can cause further swelling and raise the risk of infection.

  • No Smoking: Smoking can slow down the healing process and cause pigment retention issues, especially with lip tattoos.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside, which promotes faster healing.

  • Straw: Use a straw to drink liquid to avoid contact during the peeling phase.

6. Monitor Healing:

  • Swelling and Color Changes: It’s normal for the treated area to look darker and slightly swollen in the first few days. The color will fade by 30-50% during the healing process, and swelling typically subsides within 48 hours.

  • Signs of Infection: Redness, excessive swelling lasting more that the initial 24-48 hrs, pus, or prolonged discomfort can be signs of infection.

  • Signs of Coldsores: Tingly, tenderness, small spot are often signs of coldsores.

If you experience any of these, consult your technician or a healthcare professional immediately-within 24hrs. Note, clients are responsible in caring for potential risks that may arise.

7. Long-Term Care:

  • Touch-ups: Cosmetic tattoos may require a touch-up 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure, once healing is complete. Over time, colors may fade (especially with sun exposure), so periodic touch-ups every 1-2 years may be necessary to maintain results.

By following these aftercare steps precisely, you’ll ensure proper healing and maintain the longevity and vibrancy of your cosmetic tattoo.
